Happiness can be described as a positive mood and pleasant state ofmind.According to recent
investigations, sixty to seventy percent of Americans considerthemselves to be moderately happy, one in twenty persons feels very happy.Psychologists have been studying the factors that contribute to happiness.Itis not predictable nor is a person in an apparently ideal situation necessarilyhappy. The ideal situation may have little to do with his actual feelings.
A good education and income are usually considered necessary forhappiness.Though both may contribute, they are only chief factors if the personis seriously under-educated or actually suffering from lack of physical needs.Therich are not likely to be happier than the middle-income group or even thosewith very low incomes.People with college education are somewhat happier thanthose who didn’t graduate from high schools, and it is believed that this ismainly because they have more opportunity to control their lives.Yet peoplewith a very high income and a college education may be less happy than thosewith the same income and no college education.
It should be noted that people quickly get used to what they have, they are happiest when they feel they are increasing their level,no matterwhere it stands at a given time. The best formula for happiness is to be ableto develop the ability to tolerate frustration,to have a personal involvementand commitment, and to develop self-confidence and self-esteem.

People can be addicted to different things—e.g.,alcohol,drugs,certain foods,or even television.People who have such an addiction arecompulsive:i.e.,they have a very powerful psychological need that they feelthey must satisfy.According to psychologists, many people are compulsivespenders. They feel that they must spend money. This compulsion, like mostothers,is irrational—impossible to explain reasonably. For compulsive spenderswho buy on credit, charge accounts are even more exciting than money. In otherwords, compulsive spenders feel that with credit they can do anything.Theirpleasure in spending enormous amounts is actually greater than the pleasurethat they get from the things they buy.
There is even a special psychology of bargain hunting. To savemoney,of course, most people look for sales, low prices, and discounts.Compulsive bargain hunters, however, often buy things that they don’t need justbecause they are cheap. They want to believe that they are helping theirbudgets, but they are really playing an exciting game. When they can buysomething for less than other people, they feel they are winning. Most people, experts claim, have two reasons for their behavior:a good reason for thethings they do and the real reason.
It is not only scientists,of course, who understand the psychologyof spending habits, but also business people.Stores, companies and advertisersuse psychology to increase business:They consider people’s needs for love, power,or influence, their basic values, their beliefs and opinions, and so onin their advertising and sales method.
Psychologists often use a method calledbehavior therapy”to helpindividuals solve their personality problems. In the same way, they can helppeople who feel that they have problems with money.

The team spirit’s very important, but I don’t believe in trying tomotivate the team as a team.I try to motivate the team as individuals. So Idon’t give team talks.I speak to the players individually. And I try not to puttoo much pressure on them.I believe players perform best when they arerelaxed. If they’re too tense,I can guarantee they won’t play well.
I also believe in giving people autonomy(自主權).I like all the people whowork for me to be autonomous.I very rarely interfere.I feel people should bejudged on their results. If they prove incompetent, then I’mincompetent if Ikeep on employing them.
It’s like that with the team.I get criticized for not interferingduring a game and making more substitutions. But I feel if I’ve chosen thoseeleven players to get a result, then I should leave them alone to get on withit.
If I’m dropping a player from the team,I don’t feel I have toexplain it to them.If they want to discuss it,I’ll say,Come back and talkabout it in a couple of days.”But I don’t try to re-motivate them. It’s up tothem to have the character to fight back.I’m a great believer that almosteverything you believe in life is due to your attitude. If I have a player whois magnificently gifted but has a bad attitude,I won’t waste my time on him.
